Family Home Doctors provides urgent after hours medical service to patients in their homes, but how urgent is urgent? And when should you consider the emergency department?

If this is an emergency, please dial triple zero immediately (000) or go to a hospital.

While Family Home Doctors provides urgent medical care in the after hours, we are not an emergency department and do not offer the same services. Our list of services can be found here.

In a situation where patients are referred to emergency departments instead of using our service, the symptoms presented can include:

• chest pain
• shortness of breath
• severe dizziness (of cardiac nature)
• a collapse which has caused confusion, semi-consciousness or bleeding*

If you are booked and on arrival our doctor deems you need emergency assistance, they will call an ambulance for you and wait until it arrives. If you are ever waiting for one of our doctors and you feel as though your symptoms are worsening, always ring us again in order for our Call Centre Representatives to further triage you and determine if you need emergency help.

*Note: each case is different and the triage procedure undertaken by the Call Centre Representatives and/or Clinical Director will determine if referral to the emergency department is necessary.
